Raksha
-Human? I've never seen it. He's completely naked!
/* Tabaki is holding a PR campaign for Sakhi the Porcupine. Failed */
“A human cub has appeared in the wolf pack!” Mowgli appeared. Human. -So what? -Like what? Shame on the jungle! - Why are you talking in vain?
And Baloo teaches the wolf cubs different things
“Sakhi the porcupine passed here.” Who will follow the trail correctly and be the first to find Sakhi... “The wolves accepted a man into their family!” The man was accepted! “I told you to find Sakhi. And not enough. You never listen enough. How many times do you need to say?
“Wolves of man!” Wolves! You are a free people! But one of your family sheltered a person! -A shame! “Shame on the jungle!”
/* Shere Khan is hungry. What a glutton! Oh, and he will hiccup one day
―This is my prey. Give it back!
Rules of life from Tabaka
- Every man for himself! This is the law of the jungle. Every man for himself.
/* Bagheera is not just smart. She's also a beauty
-Quiet! Quiet! What are you, cannibals? Only Shere Khan and his henchman the jackal are capable of this.
―The Law of the Jungle states that the life of a cub can be ransomed.
/* For the bull, both the wolves and the Tabaki agree on everything, even Mowgli */
-What do you say, wolves? -What's the problem? Let him run. “He doesn’t care... The sun will eat him up.” -He will die from the winter rains. “Where is the bull, Bagheera?”
“I’ll just take a minute... I’ll see where they went...
-Let Mowgli run in the pack. Bring him up, father.
-Cry yourself, cry. The time will come - and he will still pull your mustache. Or I don't know people well.
Kidnapping
/* Baloo portrays a deer */
-Here is a deer running.
/* Mowgli runs faster on two than on four. Baloo is unhappy */
“Why do you run on two legs when you have four?
- Of course, it’s more convenient for him. After all, he is still a man. -I'm wolf! I am a wolf of a free tribe!
/* Hooray! Baby elephant saved from pit */
-Goodbye! Happy hunting! - We don’t hunt. Happy hunting to you.
/* Banderlog is delighted. And I even understand them somewhat */
“He can do everything, he knows everything.” -Only without a tail. “He’s the same, only naked.”
/* The main law of the Jungle. One that will be very useful */
-Say what you need to say?
―We are of the same blood - you and me!
/* Now that Mowgli has been kidnapped, there is only one hope left. You know who */
“I am an insignificant root eater. Throw me into a hollow with wild bees. “Give me to the python Kaa...
“This is my smartest student.” And then, we love him, Kaa.
“It’s better later, Kaa.” After all, Banderlog scolded you as an earthworm!
/* At first it was like this: Thank you, Kaushichil! Then it turned out that the right one was Korshun Chil. Oops... */
-Thank you, Korshun Chil! I will not forget you. - It’s not worth it. He said the cherished word.
“So they called me yellow fish?” - Yes, yes, fish. And also a worm! Earthworm!
“Did they call you a frog?” - Yes, yes, a frog. And also an earthworm!
Baloo and Bagheera fight with all their might
“Bagheera!” I'm already climbing towards you...
“How come they didn’t tear me into a hundred little cubs...
/* All. Kaa is in place. It's time for the last conversation */
“So this is Mowgli?” You are very similar to the Banderlogs. -I'm wolf! I am a wolf of a free tribe! My prey will be your prey. -Brave heart and polite speech.
-Banderlog... Can you see well? “We see, Kaa...
“Come one step... Closer... Closer...
Bagheera in cartoons and films
The idea to film Rudyard Kipling's work came to Walt Disney back in the 30s of the last century. However, the world saw the colorful cartoon only in 1967. Naturally, the plot underwent many changes, although in this interpretation Bagheera still remained a “male”. The character is voiced by Sebastian Cabot.
At the same time, the Soviet cartoon “Mowgli” was released, consisting of 5 episodes appearing on the screen in the period 1967–1971. And if the Disney project was aimed at the youngest viewers, then the animated series by Roman Davydov was intended for an older audience.

Mowgli and Bagheera
Walt Disney's Bagheera is a rather funny animal that often runs away from Mowgli, who is bothering her, like a mother tired of childhood games. The Soviet viewer saw this character as the embodiment of a threat. It is the black panther that constantly reminds the young man of the murders of Shere Khan.
If we analyze the relationship between her and Mowgli, then in the original source they are identified with male friendship. In the Disney version, this is a kind of camaraderie, replete with comedic moments. In the Soviet animated series, this is the mother-child relationship.
The character was voiced by theater and film actress Lyudmila Kasatkina. Artists have further strengthened the gap between the book and screen panther. In the cartoon, this is a graceful animal, endlessly pulling itself up, licking itself and showing off the curves of its body. Lyudmila Kasatkina gave the heroine a drawn-out voice with notes of a certain purr.
This interpretation, however, was received positively by the audience. And the image of Bagheera, although it has undergone significant changes, has firmly entered into traditional ideas about this character.

Little Bagheera and Shere Khan
If the 1967 Walt Disney cartoon showed a kind fairy tale, then the 2021 remake demonstrated the unfriendly environment of the wild world for humans. The role of the computer-generated Bagheera, voiced by actor Ben Kingsley, remains similar to the original source.
Realistic pictures and vivid images received high marks. Immediately after the release of the full-length film, there was talk of a sequel. However, the project was frozen due to the release of The Lion King. Currently, work is underway to write a script for the sequel to The Jungle Book.
Akela's Last Hunt
/* Akela missed */
- Then let's go swimming. “Wait, I’m still full... I’m lazy.” “Then I’ll carry you!”
/* Mowgli plays with Kaa. Kaa plays with Mowgli */
-You need the Iron Tooth. ―Iron Tooth? -Yes. I know where to get it.
/* Mother Cobra didn’t mean it in a good way. It turned out as usual */
“Let her go, Kaa.” She survived her poison. - Rotten deck.
-Good hunting!
/* Everyone is afraid of the Red Flower. And only Mowgli knows nothing about him */
“Now I have no one to fear, right, Bagheera?” “As long as we are with you, you have nothing to fear.” But there is a stronger thing in the world than the Iron Tooth. -Red flower!
/* Akela's last hunt and Shcher Khan's dishonest trick */
―Let Akela show his strength! “Make way for the leader of the pack!”
“Yeah!” The old wolf missed! Akela missed, Akela missed. Hehe!
“Wake up, Mowgli!” Wake up! “Akela missed. The pack needs a new Leader. “To the Council Rock!”
/* Council Rock. Well, who is the bravest here? */
- I took you hunting for 12 years. ― ―Now I missed. You have the right to kill me. And so I ask: which of you will come up and finish off the Lone Wolf?
/* Even fire knows the sacred word */
“You and I are of the same blood—you and me.”
/* Shere Khan completely lost his belt. We need a Red Flower! */
“Now we can only fight.”
- Stop! Is Shere Khan the Leader of the Pack? Or are you jackals to grovel before him? -Be quiet, human cub! “Something smells like carrion here.”
/* And according to his tinsel, according to his tinsel! */
“You’ve been saying so much that I’m a Human.” Finally, I believed it myself.
-Did you say you would kill me? Stand up when a Man speaks to you!
“Go away, you scorched cat!”
“Akela missed because of Shere Khan. And you won't kill him. He will be the Leader of the Pack, this is what I say - Mowgli, the Man...
History of character creation
The collection of short stories “The Jungle Book” by an English writer was published in 1893–1894. Illustrations for the book were made by American artists, including the father of the author himself, John Lockwood Kipling.
Rudyard Kipling wrote the work based on ancient Indian tales. It is also important to take into account that the writer himself was born and raised in India until the age of 6. The man invented stories about the boy Mowgli for his daughter Josephine, who died of pneumonia. In 2010, the National Trust of Great Britain discovered the very first edition of The Jungle Book, which Rudyard signed for his daughter.

Anecdote about Bagheera and Mowgli
The events in the collection of stories take place in India, but the exact location is not indicated. Although the author’s friends said that in the description of the adventures of the main characters there is a mention of Seoni, the northern forests of India and Udaipur.
The book indicates Bagheera's species - black panther. However, this is not entirely accurate if one consults information from zoology. In fact, a panther is a species concept that combines representatives of leopards and jaguars. Dark color is a manifestation of a genetic feature, melanism.
The meaning of the name Bagheera from the ancient Indian language leaves no chance for ambiguity and is translated as “leopard” or “dark panther”. It’s interesting that during the era of colonial India, warriors fighting for the country’s independence called themselves this way. They also painted themselves with dark colors, demonstrating their resemblance to a predator. When the civil uprising was suppressed, it became prohibited to use the word Bagheera in speech.

Baloo, Mowgli, Bagheera in the Walt Disney cartoon
However, the term became associated with those who continued the fight. Thus, the name Bagheera embodied such concepts as believing in oneself, an unbroken spirit, a strong will to freedom.
Literary scholars have identified Mowgli's main friends - the bear Baloo, the boa constrictor Kaa and the panther - as a source of strength, knowledge and love, respectively. However, in Soviet and Polish adaptations, the role of the black predator in the life of a boy raised in a wolf pack was revised.
Battle
/* Council Rock. The wolves will fight */
“Free Flock!” Red Dogs are coming here.
“Each of the Red Dogs is weaker than the Wolf. But there are too many of them.
“This will be a nice hunt.” Although for many it will be the last.
-We accept the battle.
/* And some decided to leave... */
“We accept the Battle!” they shouted. And the damned Frog screamed loudest of all.
- Fools! They forgot the Law of the Jungle. -Every man for himself. -Every man for himself. And we will go to the North and wait it out.
“And we’ll go to the North!” And we will go to the North!
“When we come back, there will be no one.” And even Little Frog, and his bones... And his bones... Hehe... Poor Mowgli...
/* Kaa came up with a cunning plan.. */
―Red Dogs. Yes... It will be a glorious hunt. Only after her there won’t be a single person left on Kaa.
“And one old, fat, deaf boa constrictor will be waiting for the little man.” -Yes. This means pulling Death's mustache. Well, Kaa, you really are the wisest in the Jungle!
“Let’s chase, Kaa!” They'll give chase! Mowgli has enough thorns under his tongue to stick into the skin of every Red Dog.
/* Mowgli calls the Red Dog bad names...
-Ginger dog? Red rat. Go home, dead lizard eater!
BATTLE
/* Ours won. But I feel sorry for Akela... */
“Free Flock!” I'm going to the Valley of Death. You need a new Leader - young, strong, wise. I'm talking about Mowgli. “And now I will sing the last song.”
Image and biography of Bagheera
Bagheera keeps his life story a secret and tells only Mowgli about his biography. From the pages of the book, the reader learns that she was born in the menagerie of Udaipur. The freedom-loving animal never knew the jungle, but after the death of his mother he decided to escape.
Despite the fact that in the menagerie the animal fed from the hands of people, in the jungle it was not only able to survive, but also to win the respect of other inhabitants. True, the black panther was unable to cope with one representative of the wild world - the tiger Sherkhan. It is about this danger that she lies in wait for the human cub.
Knowledge of the human world allowed her to become the wisest in the jungle. This fact is evidenced not only by the character’s quotes (“I learned the ways of people, I became more terrible in the jungle than Shere Khan”), but also by the fact that the rest of the inhabitants come to Bagheera for advice.

Baloo, Mowgli, Kaa and Bagheera
When she heard about the human cub, according to the laws of the pack, she brought a ransom for Mowgli, a huge buffalo, to protect him from death. The boy was raised by a she-wolf, although in the Soviet interpretation Bagheera becomes the child’s second mother, introducing him to the rules of survival in the wild world.
The panther also teaches him sacred words, by pronouncing which the boy can summon other animals. Despite the feeling of his own superiority, the animal, which managed to get out of human captivity, recognizes the power of Mowgli as the smartest creature on earth.
So, she tells her pupil about the “red flower”, which even Sherkhan is afraid of. Subsequently, thanks to the advice of his mentor, the young man steals fire from a nearby village and repels the enemy.
When the main character grows up, the black panther says that it is time to return to the people. She again brings the buffalo carcass as ransom to repay the debt to the wolf pack and free Mowgli from his obligations to them.
