"Don't trust the Turk"

As reported, six-hour Russian-Turkish negotiations took place yesterday. Their results were summed up in a telephone interview with the Russian People's Line by Mikhail Ilyich Yakushev, candidate of historical sciences, historian-orientalist, Arabist, Ottomanist, translator of the Arabic language at the highest level, full member of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society, general director of the Katehon analytical center:

Russian-Turkish negotiations are purely tactical in nature. The behavior of the Turkish leader shows his unpredictability and ambiguity. In September 2021, Turkey made commitments that it has not yet fulfilled. Moreover, pro-Turkish gangs have arrogated to themselves the right to strike the Syrian army and even our base in Khmeimim.

This morning, my Turkish friends sent me their comments about the negotiations, in which they praised the President of Russia: “Putin did well, he played well in this game.”

My Turkish friends, apparently, represent other forces and believe that everything was done correctly on the part of our diplomacy. Although it would be possible to speak more harshly and put Turkey within a time frame for fulfilling its obligations in September 2021, and not give a new extension and not set new deadlines. I would not like the additional agreement to resemble the Minsk-2 document, which everyone talks about, but which no one implements.

However, it is positive that a ceasefire agreement was reached. But we remember well that in this sense the question is not for the Syrian regime, but for Ankara: “When will Turkey fulfill its obligations?” Maybe the Turks do not at all want to continue to fulfill their obligations in September 2021 and March 5, 2021?

Oddly enough, the saying of Peter I comes to mind: “Don’t trust the Turk.” I would like to believe, but still Pyotr Alekseevich Romanov knew firsthand how the Ottoman Turks behaved. We need to once again remember and turn to the historical experience of relations between our two sides. In this sense, the genetic code of the Ottoman Empire is very strongly manifested in the behavior of the Turkish side in the Idlib issue.

I do not believe that the ceasefire agreement is of strategic importance; rather, it is an agreement of a tactical nature. We will monitor the development of the situation. Some time will pass and we will understand how controlled the gangs are by the Turks, and whether the militants will stage provocations. Then it will be possible to make more far-sighted and objective forecasts.

“The Turks will conquer Afghanistan, unlike the weakling Russians and cowardly Americans”

Turkish newspapers write about the influx of Afghan refugees after the cowardly flight of American soldiers from Afghanistan. According to the Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs, at least one thousand people arrive daily in the province of Van, which is located in the southeast of the country, forced to hide from the Taliban. Some of them are undocumented, which only adds to the chaos. Nobody knows what kind of people they are, but migrants say they fear for their lives and want benefits.

This flow, however, is not critical for Turkey. In any case, Erdogan does not openly fear a repeat of the migration tsunami similar to the one that occurred after the outbreak of the civil war in Syria. Most of the arrivals are educated Afghans, but they seem to be few in number. The Yankees did not really struggle with local illiteracy, preferring to profit from drug trafficking or sit out in fortified areas.

Sherkhan and the Turks

It just so happens that today, April 25, Vladimir Volfovich Zhirinovsky turns 75 years old. We congratulate the veteran of modern Russian politics, so today we’ll talk about Turkey.

What does Zhirinovsky have to do with this, you ask? I am not a supporter of the LDPR - well, not even once - but I cannot help but note Vladimir Volfovich’s almost 100% success in forecasting the future of the world and Russia’s place in it. Perhaps no one laughs at Zhirinovsky’s forecasts anymore - and even his sacred “We will wash our boots in the Indian Ocean!” It's already very close in time. Perhaps not everyone knows, but Sudan has been persistently asking Russia for quite some time to organize its own naval base in Port Sudan - and from it you can go both to the Red Sea and to the Indian Ocean, it is right on the border of the waters.

But I want to remind you of another forecast from Zhirinovsky. Just that the moment will come and Turkey, instead of NATO, will join the CSTO. It sounded very funny at the time, but lately it hasn’t sounded like a laugh anymore.

So, on April 24, the United States took two steps, after which the Turks’ exit from NATO is no longer just possible, but highly probable. Firstly, the Turks were finally thrown out of the F-35 program. Secondly, on Saturday America recognized the genocide of the Armenian population in 1915. And if the entire civilized world is full of questions about the newest American prodigy, then the second is already an insult at the national level. In addition, Russia is well aware of how NATO “helps” its allies in the event of a real conflict.

The first time the Turks felt the cohesion of NATO was at the moment when the Gulenists shot down a Russian plane on the border with Syria - then the bloc’s headquarters strongly recommended not to involve the bloc itself in possible showdowns between Russians and Turks. The Greeks felt NATO cohesion for the second time when the Turks began geological exploration in Greece's exclusive economic zone last year. And at the very end of last year, such cohesion was demonstrated by the bloc for the Italians and the French, near the shores of Libya - then the warships of these countries tried to stop for inspection several Turkish merchant ships transporting weapons and other military equipment for the Government of National Salvation. Let me remind you that Ankara, in the heat of the moment, promised to drown the “inspectors” - and no one dared to test the determination of the Turkish leadership.

It is worth noting that of all the European NATO armies, Ankara has the most powerful and trained group of troops - accordingly, today NATO does not risk going into conflict even with the Turks. However, for several months now, publications in Western media have shown Erdogan almost always from a negative point of view - and this is especially felt in American publications.

I can note that I have been following Ankara’s relations with Brussels and Washington for a long time. In recent years, the Turkish president's rhetoric has become harsher and harsher - and the first time he openly lost his temper was at the moment when the Americans began to help the Kurds, declaring the latter their allies. Then there was the story of a failed coup d'etat, the murder of the Russian ambassador - and behind all these actions one can see the activities of the preacher Gülen, a former ally of Erdogan, who fled to America. Gülen could not act alone - therefore, he was actively assisted by American intelligence agencies. This means that the US leadership also participated in the coup attempt - the Americans need an absolutely pro-Western and manageable leader in this post.

This, in turn, shows how well the Americans “understand” the situation - in the Middle East, a pro-Western leader is initially perceived as a weak person. And he does not and cannot have any political prospects - and Erdogan is a very strong leader, from the point of view of the Turks.

For example, back in 1980, there was a military coup in Turkey. Another one, as usual. Erdogan then worked in the transport department of Istanbul, of which he later became mayor - and when his boss, a former colonel, demanded that Erdogan shave his mustache, he was sent far and wide. For which, in fact, he was fired from his post. The second significant incident occurred at the turn of the century - then Recep Tayipovich already served as mayor of the largest city in Turkey. So, he dared to publicly and aloud read a poem by the pan-Turkist Ziya Gökalp, who lived at the beginning of the 20th century - it contained the following lines: “Mosques are our barracks, domes are our helmets, minarets are our bayonets and our faithful soldiers.”

Naturally, the military, who came to power after the next coup, could not forgive the mayor of Istanbul for reading the banned poet - Erdogan was accused of “inciting violence and religious or racial hatred” and sentenced to ten months in the Turkish prison. He appealed, asking for the prison to be replaced with a fine. As a result, the court did not agree, but the term of imprisonment itself was reduced to 120 days. It was this event that brought Erdogan nationwide popularity - and although after his release from prison in November 1999 he was prohibited from engaging in political activities, this incident formed the image of Erdogan as a politician among the Turks.

Yes, he could not take part in the parliamentary elections, but in July 2001 he created the Justice and Development Party, which a year and a half later, in November 2002, tore all its competitors to shreds - and then only a criminal record prevented Erdogan from becoming prime minister. However, after the start of the American operation in Iraq, the Turks needed a tough hand - and in 2003, the ban on Erdogan as prime minister was lifted by law. Since 2003 - Prime Minister. Since 2014 - President. There is no doubt that he will win the election again - and all this time Erdogan has led his country towards sovereignty as he understands it.

Erdogan has finally said goodbye to Turkey’s dream of joining the European Union, refusing to implement Brussels’ decisions in the field of human rights protection. Leaving NATO is the next logical step, since the Turks are well aware of the real capabilities of this bloc. In addition, they already left NATO, albeit temporarily - if anyone doesn’t remember, this happened in 1973, when Ankara began creating a Turkish enclave on the Greek island. Then the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus appeared on the world map, which has not yet been recognized by anyone except Turkey itself - and for almost half a century neither NATO nor the European Union can do anything about it.

As for Great Turan, this is rhetoric exclusively for internal use - Erdogan is well aware that Russia will not allow the Turks to gain a foothold in the support countries of this project - Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. They are too politically and economically dependent on Moscow to commit outright suicide. But, at the same time, the Turkish leader is very closely following the growing Greater Eurasia project - and when this happens, Turkey clearly does not want to remain on the economic margins.

And there are only two ways to enter the project - either the CSTO or the SCO, and the first path is much preferable for Ankara - let me remind you that the Chinese openly support Turkey’s eternal antagonist, the ancient and capricious Iran.

However, Putin has already managed to seat them at the same negotiating table. And it will probably succeed more than once, especially if we talk about the Turks leaving the NATO bloc.

In addition, now the bloc only prevents Ankara from pursuing its regional policy - you see, in Brussels and Strasbourg they were again screaming about the bloody Turkish regime oppressing the unfortunate Kurds.

In any case, we are now witnessing a clear loss of America in the Middle East. Following Afghanistan and Iraq, Turkey’s turn inevitably comes - and, quite possibly, we will soon see Turkish crews at the next tank biathlon in the near Moscow region.
