The drinking in the film had to be toned down. The bottles were removed from the frame. Almost all. They almost even banned the film completely. Because of Uncle Mitya, as a heavy drinker.

The fall of Vasily Kuzyakin into the Black Sea

In one scene, the head of the family says goodbye to his loved ones, and then falls into the water in a suit. He swims out in only his shorts. This is the result of hard work. Vladimir Valentinovich decided that Alexander Mikhailov should get rid of his suit in the water.

A pavilion was built on the pier, under which there were divers. When Alexander Mikhailov fell into the water, they took off the artist’s suit (as the film director ordered). In the first take, an error occurred: while tugging at Kuzyakin’s suit, the divers tightened the tie around the actor’s neck more and more.

Mikhailov almost choked. At the last second, he began to hit the knife on the diver's belt. He immediately understood everything and cut Mikhailov’s tie. In the next takes, this tie was secured with thread so that it could be torn immediately.

Alexander Yakovlevich remembered filming at sea both because of the danger to life and the cold. Scenes at the resort were filmed in late autumn, the water temperature was no higher than fourteen degrees. The artists had to hide their trembling. When everything was filmed, Vladimir Menshov jumped into the icy water as a sign of solidarity.

The role of Nadia

The role of the impulsive Nadezhda in the production was played by Nina Doroshina, who was a theater artist. Therefore, initially the film director did not even consider this actress for the main role. Doronina, Kustinskaya, and even the director’s wife auditioned for the role of Nadezhda Kuzyakina, but in the end Vladimir Menshov returned to Doroshina again. Nina Mikhailovna was the ideal Nadezhda. Doroshina agreed almost immediately, because this heroine was well known to her.

Tatyana Doronina was also tested for the role of Raisa Zakharovna. She successfully passed the screen test, but then refused this role, which she later regretted very much.

In an interview, Vladimir Valentinovich explained Doronina’s refusal as follows:

Something was slowing down inside her.

A similar situation occurred with Olga Yakovleva, another contender for the role of the extravagant homewrecker Raisa Zakharovna. As a result, filming began without this heroine. Once, sitting down to watch TV, Vladimir Valentinovich saw Lyudmila Gurchenko. He exclaimed:

How did I forget? Here she is, a beautiful homewrecker!

Reviews

Soviet film comedy/drama from 1984 with a lot of memorable characters, excellent actors, a non-fictional story and dialogues calculated to the smallest detail. Great movie. For quite a long time I did not perceive Soviet cinema as such, digesting only all kinds of Americanized consumer goods. However, subsequently a turning point occurred and Soviet film ideas opened up with their full strength, a certain naivety, spontaneity, other worlds and attitudes (not typical for all films). At least I watched this film with undisguised interest and pleasure. It is also worth saying that the film is not the root cause, but a film adaptation of the root cause - the play of the same name by Vladimir Gurkin. The plot of the film is built around an ordinary (though, in my opinion, fairly cinematized) village. In one of the houses, which are now called the private sector, Vasily Kuzyakin (Alexander Mikhailov) lives with his wife Nadezhda (Nina Doronina), two daughters and a son. Periodically, the family is visited by Uncle Mitya (Sergei Yursky), who is simply a walking adventure, always wanting to have a drink every now and then (the signature phrase is 'what is typical...'). Vasily breeds pigeons and finds his interest and passion in caring for them. However, the idea is not supported by the wife, since money is spent on this matter, moreover, money taken without an agreement and, in fact, time that could have been spent, in the wife’s opinion, on more pressing matters. To a certain extent, Vasily is supported by his youngest daughter, while Lyudka and Lyonka live their own lives. Along the way, the man is persuaded to drink alcohol by Uncle Mitya, who can go to the most outright adventures in order to once again fill his eyes (of course, the way this is presented on the screen and seen from the outside looks very comedic, but in real life this is very far from the case. This gives rise to a lot of swearing and negative emotions, up to the development of despair and other things). For such drinking, Uncle Mitya constantly receives scoldings from his old wife (the picture is replete with all sorts of rustic distortions of words and phrases. The characters are constantly wailing something, yelling, quarreling in an everyday way and also rejoicing). Anyway, the first part of the film is smooth, fun and very relatable to the average person (literally all the characters look like this). Later, Vasily goes to the resort on a voucher from the enterprise (during the film itself, one gets the impression that he does not work at all, or perhaps is on vacation, but his work activities are not presented), where he meets with those who are carried away by progressive views (psychics , oriental medicine) an intellectual, a fashionista and, incidentally, an employee of the HR department of the enterprise Raisa Zakharovna (Lyudmila Gurchenko), where Vasily works. A conversation begins between them, perceptions and spending time together, as a result of which the latter falls in love with Vasily and finds in him that very spontaneity, sincerity and kindness that, unfortunately, cannot be found alone. A turning point occurs in the Kuzyakin family, the father leaves his home, abandons his wife and children and goes under the emotionally and aesthetically sublime principles of Raisa Zakharovna. The dramatic part of the film begins. Here the characters change and everything begins to happen very emotionally and colorfully (right down to phrases like “Oh, you’re a beautiful bitch!”, beatings, murderous intentions and Vasily’s life far from home, on a watery outskirts). Having lived a little with Raisa Zakharovna, Vasily is determined in his true aspirations and discovers an immediate desire not for these intellectually exalted lives, but for the simplicity of rural existence. But not everything is so simple and it takes a certain time to return and realize, make the necessary decisions and spark new beginnings and impulses (the phenomenon of separation and subsequent reunification after a certain period of time is often a very necessary tool). One way or another, the process of “healing with time and separation” is successful and at the end the family is reunited, sending their son into the army amid the roar of celebration. Finally the picture ends, much as it begins, with doves - an allusion to reunion and love. A wonderful film, the production of which could have cost minimal sums. But emotions cannot be bought, and here you can see a lot of them - comedic, dramatic, and everyday. Very bright characters, seemingly unnoticeable insertions of changing figures (the “sad” figure, the “separated” figure) with Vladimir Menshov announcing them directly to the camera; Vasily jumping from the house straight into the sea (change of locations); blossoming of toy flowers on a tree. Finally, dancing in a fit of despair and sadness (especially performed by Vasily himself, when he looked into the windows of his former house). The only thing that caused a little bewilderment was the fixation of Vasily’s wife Nadezhda on how certain people around her would think about her or Vasily’s actions or actions (‘ashamed to look into the eyes’, etc.), but these are human phenomena, too human and, as Vasily correctly noted, let them think what they want. An excellent, kind, everyday film that you can watch over and over again and still get the same emotions and impressions that never cease despite their repetition.

House

The real owners of Vasily Kuzyakin's house lived there during filming. Vladimir Valentinovich was looking for a place for filming on Lake Baikal, but could not choose the right house. The director found the suitable scenery quite by accident while walking in Medvezhyegorsk (Karelia). Menshov liked the house on the river bank so much that he even agreed with the owners about filming.

A room for breeding pigeons and a summer kitchen were added to this house, which were left to the residents after filming. “Love and Doves” was filmed for several months. During this period, the owners lived with the Kuzyakins. During the break between filming, the hospitable owners tended to the vegetable garden and dovecote.

After the release of the film “Love and Doves,” the house where the Kuzyakin family lived became famous. People from all over the country came to Medvezhyegorsk. The owners who allowed the film to be filmed in their house have not lived there for a long time.

Eleven years ago, disaster happened - the house burned down. All residents of Medvezhyegorsk took part in its restoration. Currently, a cottage has been erected on the site of the Kuzyakin family house. The new owners have restored the dovecote and are also planning to rebuild the veranda.
