To require that people should renounce their own judgments and submit to the judgments of others, and to appoint persons who are completely ignorant of science or art as judges over learned people - these are innovations that are capable of leading to ruin and destroying the state.
Truly, just as he has no ears, so these eyes are closed to the light of truth... This kind of people thinks that philosophy is some kind of book, like the Aeneid or the Odyssey, but truth must be sought not in the world, not in nature, but in the comparison of texts.
Such is the power of truth: you try to refute it, but your very attacks elevate it and give it greater value.
Only with the death of dogma does science begin.
Everyone can speak confusedly, but few can speak clearly.
In order to destroy the teachings of Copernicus, it is not enough to silence someone. It is also necessary to impose a ban on all astronomical science and, moreover, prohibit anyone from looking at the sky!
Ignorance is the mother of malice, envy, greed and all other low and gross vices, as well as sins.
Aristotle taught me to satisfy my mind only with what reasoning convinces me of, and not just with the authority of a teacher.
Galileo Galileo, Italian scientist, poet, was born on February 15, 1564 in the city of Pisa. His father, Vicenzo Galilei, was a famous musician. He spent his childhood in Pisa, then the family moved to Florence, where Galileo studied in a Benedictine monastery. In 1581 he entered the University of Pisa, where he studied medicine and became acquainted with the works of Aristotle, Hippocrates, and Galen.
He became interested in the works of Euclid and devoted a lot of time to studying physics and mathematics. In 1586, Galileo's first scientific work, “Small Hydrostatic Balances,” was published. In 1590 he published the work “On Movement”, criticizing the teachings of Aristotle. This criticism turned supporters of Aristotle's theory against Galileo. Galileo left Pisa and went to teach mathematics at the University of Padua. He studied a lot of astronomy and arranged his personal life. At the end of 1609, Galileo built the world's first telescope.
A year later, in the essay “Star Messenger”, he described his discoveries - mountains and craters on the Moon, many stars that make up the Milky Way, the four satellites of Jupiter, Neptune, the phases of Venus and spots on the Sun. This work brought Galileo European fame. The Tuscan Duke Cosimo II de' Medici offered Galileo the position of court mathematician.
In 1632, in the book “Dialogue on the Two Chief Systems of the World,” he proved the fallacy of the views of Aristotle and Ptolemy. The Inquisition charged Galileo with heresy. To save his life, he had to renounce his views. Galileo spent the last years of his life in his villa in Arcetri near Florence under house arrest. Nevertheless, he continued his research, writing works on physics, mathematics, and mechanics, for example, “Conversations and Mathematical Proofs...”, where he outlined the fundamentals of dynamics. This work was secretly transported to Holland and published in 1638. In the last five years of his life, Galileo became completely blind. Died 8 January 1642
Aphorisms and quotes from Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei (1564–1642) - Italian physicist, mechanic and astronomer, one of the founders of natural science, poet, philologist and critic.
I think there is no greater hatred in the world than the hatred of the ignorant for knowledge.
To destroy the teachings of Copernicus it is not enough to shut someone up. It is also necessary to impose a ban on all astronomical science and prohibit anyone from looking at the sky.
Any truth is easy to understand if it has already been discovered; the main thing is to open it.
Doubt is the father of invention.
I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who endowed us with senses, reason, and intellect intended not to recommend their use to us, but to give us the knowledge that we are able to gain by them in some other way.
I have never met a person so ignorant that I could not learn anything from him.
A person cannot be taught anything; you can only help him find it in himself.
Aristotle taught me to satisfy my mind only with what reasoning convinces me of, and not just with the authority of a teacher.

Logic is a tool used in philosophy; and just as one can be an excellent master in constructing an instrument without knowing how to extract a single sound from it, so one can be a great logician without knowing how to use logic properly.
Ignorance is the mother of malice, envy, greed and all other low and gross vices, as well as sins.
Nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished without passion.
Truly, just as he has no ears, so these eyes are closed to the light of truth... This kind of people thinks that philosophy is some kind of book, like the Aeneid or the Odyssey, but truth must be sought not in the world, not in nature, but in the comparison of texts.
A guide is needed in unknown and wild countries, but in an open and smooth place only a blind person needs a guide. And the blind man will do well if he stays at home. He who has eyes and intelligence must use them as guides. I am not saying that one should not listen to Aristotle, on the contrary, I praise those who peer into him and study him diligently. I only condemn the tendency to surrender so much to the power of Aristotle as to blindly subscribe to his every word.
Such is the power of truth: you try to refute it, but your very attacks elevate it and give it greater value.

I prefer to find one truth, even in insignificant things, than to argue for a long time about the greatest issues without achieving any truth.

Galileo Galileo short biography (1564-1642)
Galileo Galileo quotes.
Italian philosopher, physicist, mathematician. From the age of 11 he was brought up in the Vallombrosa monastery. At the age of 17, he left the monastery and entered the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Pisa. He became a university professor and later headed the department of mathematics at the University of Padua, where over the course of 18 years he created a series of outstanding works on mathematics and mechanics. He built a telescope that magnified objects three times, placed it on the tower of San Marco in Venice, allowing everyone to look at the Moon and stars. Following this, he invented a telescope that increased its power 11 times compared to the first. He described his observations in the work “Starry Messenger”.
They began to accuse him of charlatanism and heresy, but Cosimo II de' Medici took the scientist under his protection and invited him to become a court philosopher and mathematician.
He wrote the book “Dialogue on the Two Major Systems of the World” on Ptolemy and Copernicus, in which he proved that the Earth rotates around the Sun and around its axis. He was captured by the Inquisition and, under threat of death at the stake, renounced his views. He was forever prohibited from writing or distributing his work in any way. He was buried next to Michelangelo in the Church of Santa Croce in Florence.
