The study involved 70 psychology students who were asked to evaluate their own ability for self-irony. While participants filled out questionnaires on a computer, they were photographed by a hidden camera.
A little later, participants in the experiment were shown distorted photographs of the faces of unfamiliar men and women and asked to rate them on a scale from “very funny” to “very unpleasant.” To the surprise of the subjects, the sample included their own portraits taken earlier.
