In life we all make choices. Most of these decisions are as simple as choosing what to wear, while other decisions we need to make will affect the course of our lives for years to come.
Sometimes the choices we make lead us to happiness, and sometimes they cause us to feel guilty and regretful. Regardless of the outcome, the lesson was learned.
The great Jedi who trained Luke Skywalker constantly reminded his student of the importance of making the right choices.
Here we present Yoda's quotes about choice and learning.

Often the biggest stumbling block to personal success is fear.
And in the Star Wars films, Yoda must constantly remind his apprentice that there is a reason to overcome what he fears most. Being consumed by fear is the easiest way to fall to the Dark Side.
Here we present Yoda's most popular quotes about fear and the Dark Side.
The shadow side of man

The concept of the shadow side of personality was first coined by the Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung, and refers to those aspects of our “Self” that we deny or suppress.
.
According to Jung, every person has a “Persona” and a “Shadow”
. A persona is who we want to be and how we want others to see us. The word “persona” literally means “mask” in Latin, representing the different social masks we wear among different groups of people and situations.
Shadow
is what forms part of our unconscious and consists of repressed ideas, instincts, impulses, weaknesses, desires, perversions and shameful fears. It is often described as the shadow side of the psyche.
According to Carl Jung, we psychologically distance ourselves from those emotions, thoughts and behaviors that we find unacceptable. Instead of facing what we don't like, our psyche pretends it doesn't exist.
Angry outbursts, feelings of shame, immoral desires, phobias and forbidden sexual desires
- all these are examples of the Shadow, which is present in all people, but which few people recognize.
The more we avoid our Shadow, the more it grows inside us, and waits like a volcano to explode at the most unexpected moment.
Denial of the shadow side leads to chaos and disharmony. At the same time, accepting your shadow helps create inner psychological balance.
Here are some examples of shady behavior.

The tendency to judge other people harshly, especially when done impulsively.
You may have caught yourself pointing out how “shady” or “stupid” another person looked.
Deep down, you wouldn't want anyone to single you out like that, so by judging someone else, you convince yourself that you're smart enough not to take the same risks as the other person.
You betray your own insecurities by pointing out the shortcomings of another person.
This has become especially obvious in the Internet era. If you look through the comments, you will always find many provocateurs calling the author “stupid,” “idiot,” “mediocre,” and so on.
Ironically, these trolls are the most insecure people.
Lose your temper quickly with people in a subordinate position.
Perhaps you have more than once encountered a situation where a person, taking advantage of his position, splashed out negativity on those who did not have the power to fight back. Exercising power over others is another shadowy way of compensating for one's own feelings of helplessness in the face of even greater power.
Play the victim in every situation.
Instead of admitting our “sin,” we are often willing to do anything to portray ourselves as a victim, an innocent and poor person who does not need to take responsibility.
Willingness to walk over corpses to achieve your goal.
People often glorify themselves without realizing that they may have gone to great lengths to achieve their success.
This can also be seen on a smaller scale when people vie for a place in line or cut each other off on the road.
Preconceptions and prejudices
We often judge others by their appearance. And while this behavior is understandable, it's easy to take toxic prejudice too far.
Given social pressures, we often prefer to pretend that we are not racist, misogynistic, or sexist, rather than work on ourselves to get rid of destructive stereotypes.
Messiah complex
Some people consider themselves so enlightened that they believe they can do no wrong. They interpret their actions as a desire to “save” others, to help them see the light, so to speak. In fact, this is another example of the dark side manifesting itself.
Jedi. Who are they?
Who are the Jedi? Creatures sensitive to the Force. Seemingly ordinary in themselves, in situations of need they could draw resources from their contact with the Force. Thanks to this, one Jedi in battle replaced dozens of ordinary warriors: the Force accelerated reactions, gave foresight, allowed them to make huge jumps similar to flight and much, much more. An important point that the reader probably missed: all this had to happen in situations of necessity .
How to distinguish them from many others? How do you know when to use the Force and when not to?
The Jedi were warriors of the world. They monitored the peace of the galaxy and came to the rescue if peace was disturbed. Using the Force for these purposes was permitted and noble. The opposite, naturally, was the moments of using the Force for personal purposes. Not for the good of the Galaxy, but for your own benefit.
It is worth noting that the Jedi Order was a classic monastic military order. In our version of a distant galaxy, these were, for example, the orders of the Crusaders or Shaolin monks. My occupation is military, but my motivation is religious. Imagine hundreds, thousands of warriors who are raised and trained for one single purpose: to defend the space entrusted to them. Simply - to fight.
The question arises. How long will such a community last in peacetime? Study the art of war year after year, knowing that your skills may never be useful to you in your life, which means your life was worth nothing? It’s another matter when motivation is taken beyond the boundaries of existence. Yes, I live and improve in skills that it would be better never to put into practice seriously. But the point is not to put them into action, but to serve a higher power (or Force), to maintain this contact. The meaning is not in personal interests, but in a higher purpose.
The Jedi Order could only exist as a spiritual, albeit military, organization. And they really were forbidden everything that leads to the dark side.
Color Details
Why is the dark side so bad? Among fans of the Star Wars universe, heroes who use the dark Force are statistically almost more sympathetic than the light Jedi. Discussing the “badness” or “goodness” of this or that is not the purpose of this article. Therefore, let's take it on faith: the Jedi really believed that the dark side of the Force was very bad, and one should stay away from it. This was the only way to maintain world balance and harmony, which was especially important for every Jedi.
Both the code and other Jedi principles were designed to protect against the attraction of the dark side. And the attraction could be unbearable. Starting with small thoughts, with overwhelming anger or a sense of one’s own uniqueness, it led along winding paths to the idea: why not? Why can't I use what I have? Why not draw resources from anger rather than from the desire for peace? What prevents you from extracting information from a prisoner using methods that are slightly more strict than the master would approve? What prohibitions can someone who is so strong have?
So, slowly and barely noticeably, the Jedi began to increasingly rely on his desires and ideas, on flaring emotions, to get bogged down in personal interests, placing the goals of the Order in the background. Shifting the meaning taken outside the framework of being, inside life. Threatening the pillar on which the Order rests.
In fact, relying on one’s desires and experiencing any emotions is very typical for living beings. Only what was natural for an ordinary creature turned out to be a fall for a Jedi. The responsibility assigned back in the days of apprenticeship was significantly higher than the galactic average and required decisive voluntary restrictions.
Therefore, in practice, the Jedi, just in case, tried not to even come close to the line from which the fall began.
That's the whole problem.
Who is using whom?
There is a colorful term in psychology: repression. Sometimes this is a working protective mechanism necessary in everyday life. But sometimes it becomes a time bomb.
When a person (or a member of another intergalactic race) experiences something that is taboo in the circles that matter to him, he can pretend that he is not experiencing anything.
Doesn't feel anger.
Feels no fear.
And he doesn’t even want to fulfill erotic fantasies regarding his beloved. Beloved? What do you mean, Jedi are supposed to love everyone equally. And he, of course, loves this person equally.
Only this is a lie. Emotions, feelings and sensations, suppressed from consciousness by a thick set of principles and prohibitions, are stored in the unconscious, compressed with a tight spring, grow without the knowledge of their owner and one day explode so that they can be seen even beyond the Far Border.
This happened to Anakin Skywalker. His loss of his mother, love for Padmé, becoming a Sith and dying choice of the light side deserve a separate article or a couple of dissertations on psychology. Now it is important to pay attention to this.
Anakin Skywalker would never have become Darth Vader if the Jedi Order had truly followed its principles honestly.
Did the Jedi know that Anakin was afraid of his mother's death? Of course they did. He certainly told his teacher, Obi-Wan, about nightmares where his mother died and he could not save her. Did the Jedi do anything to help Anakin with his pain?
They forbade him to be afraid.
“Control your emotions.” "Fear leads to the dark side."
Were they not afraid themselves? What, if not fear, prevented Obi-Wan from talking to his Padawan in such a way that he did not have to wake up in horror over and over again? Why, if not from fear of this unheard of strong boy, did the great Jedi masters turn a blind eye to what was happening?
“Don’t feel,” Anakin was told. He tried to push the fear so deep that he could not see it. Repression worked according to the classical scheme: experiences repressed by a person became phonic, literally turning out to be the experiences of those around them, and they came to him in nightmares.
Fear gives rise to anger. Anger leads to the dark side.
The more Anakin told himself not to be afraid, the more dangerous he became to himself and those around him. Until, in the end, he turned into a tool in the hands of Darth Sidious and destroyed both the Order and everything that was dear to him.
He thought he was controlling his fear. In fact, his fear controlled him.
But can't the same be said about the entire Order?
