Quotes from the movie "Legend" by Tom Hardy (70 quotes)
“Legend” is a British-French film directed by American director Brian Helgeland based on the book “The Art of Cruelty: The Rise and Fall of the Kray Twins” by John Pearson, based on real events. The screenplay was written by Helgeland himself, marking his return to the crime genre for the first time since L.A. Confidential. The film tells the story of the Kray twins - Ronald and Reginald - gangsters who terrorized London in the 60s, whose cruelty and instability were legendary. The plot covers the period from the beginning of their criminal career to their imprisonment in 1969. For the first time in the history of English cinema, Legend grossed 5.18 million pounds ($8 million) and entered the list of the highest-grossing films in England. Quotes from the movie “Legend” by Tom Hardy are presented in this collection.

All reviews about the film Legend
Mid-60s, the Kray twins, Reginald and Ronald (both Hardys), live in London. Reggie dresses elegantly, speaks calmly, solves problems and generally looks almost human. Ronnie is a certified psychopath, paranoid and schizophrenic. Reggie is courting Frances (Browning), a good girl who is studying to be a secretary and loves candy. Ronnie is a homosexual, which he has a habit of telling strangers about (although this still warrants an article). The brothers lead a gang that controls first the East End and then the whole of London.
The Kray Twins are an important chapter in London mythology: a completely literary story that nevertheless happened in reality. In 1990, Peter Medak made a dark and powerful film about them (it's called The Kray Brothers) with the Kemp brothers from Spandau Ballet. This time, the British invited a seasoned director from America, Brian Helgland (screenwriter of Mystic River and L.A. Confidential, director of Reckoning with Gibson and A Knight's Tale), and Tom Hardy took on both roles.
The brothers' biography is good no matter how you look at it - both in a historical sense, in the context of swinging London and the social changes of the 60s, and in a medical sense, given the wide choice of Freudian interpretations. And in purely entertainment terms: the brothers were the darlings of the British tabloids for years. They owned nightclubs, interacted with celebrities (including the ubiquitous Frank Sinatra) and got into interesting stories: one of them, about a homosexual orgy with the participation of a peer, is briefly described in “Legend”. The 1990 film focused on the mother of twins and, accordingly, followed a psychoanalytic line. Helgland extracted from Reggie's rich past a marriage with a certain Frances Shea: the events are sealed with her voice-over comments, she seems to represent the norm in the elusively surreal world of the Kray brothers.
Tom Hardy's duality, of course, is the main trump card of the film, which can be used to beat any questions and complaints, and it is really extremely entertaining to watch. He plays the role of Reggie honestly and, in general, predictably - both his breakdowns and beautiful impulses fit into the standard image of the hero of a gangster biopic. Not so Ronnie, a character who is equal parts terrifying and comical, like a huge, angry baby. Ronnie walks a donkey in a tuxedo, dreams of building a utopian city in Nigeria and always wants to kill someone - and it is he, and not Reggie, who ultimately evokes something like sympathy. The brothers have different movements, facial expressions, diction, and even, it seems, physiques (an illusion achieved by different styles of costumes). A wonderful attraction that after a few minutes you forget that it is an attraction - although, of course, it was impossible to do without a fight between Tom Hardy and Tom Hardy.
Otherwise, Legend unfortunately too often lives up to its delightfully random title. Carefully interweaving lines from the biography of the twins with genre clichés, Helgland made a large and empty movie that, instead of grabbing the viewer by the throat, majestically floats past him. The film has an amorphous structure - everything seems to be in place, but almost any plot element could be removed without any damage. The supporting characters - the swindler who leads the brothers' cases (Thewlis), the policeman who is chasing them (Eccleston), the leader of a rival gang (Bettany), the ambassador of the American mafia (Palminteri), the young lover Ronnie (Egerton) - appear and disappear like action figures at the shooting range. Frances, despite her central role and the abundance of screen time, remains a sketch, obediently and uninterestingly carrying out the mandatory program of a gangster’s girlfriend: swallowing pills, accepting expensive gifts, getting furious when her loved one is once again sent to prison, and demanding that he quit.
The characters speak an unimaginable Cockney, but “Legend” has an export, mid-Atlantic accent - Helgland, like everyone else in such cases, tries to be Scorsese and, like everyone else, runs out of steam after about fifteen minutes. Pubs, bobbies, tea parties and football on TV look not like signs of a place, but elements of an excursion program. The 60s songs and beautiful costumes - and despite flashes of violence, this is a glossy, almost glamorous film (in keeping with the twins' lifestyle, however) - in the absence of exciting action, they unceremoniously steal the spotlight. In the prologue, the Kray brothers are driving in a car - if Helgland had been smarter, he would have just left them there for two hours, it would have been exactly twice as good as the movie Locke, and no one would have complained.
Legend
I am the lord of darkness. I need the peace of the shadows and the darkness of the night. The light of the sun is destruction. But everything will change. Tonight the sun will set forever. And it will never rise again. Sign in! Ah, Blix. Come closer. Did you call me, Your Majesty? Aren't you the most disgusting among my goblins? Truly so, master. And your heart is filled with blackness and hatred? Black as midnight, black as pitch. Blacker than the most evil witches. That's why I called you here. Since I must remain in the darkness, you will be my eyes and ears. You do me great honor, sir. I feel restless. I feel the presence in the forest of something that, by my grace, I had almost forgotten. Woe to the one who dared to disturb you, ruler. Who would have thought that such gentle creatures could have such power. With such power one can rule the universe. You must find them and grind them into powder! What do they look like, sir? Idiot! Let this help you remember. Each of them has one horn pointing straight to the heavens. I understand you, sir. Bring these horns to me. And you will be generously rewarded. You will become a prince in my kingdom. What an honor, master. Where should I look, sir? There is only one bait for such disgusting virtue, a bait that never fails. What will become this bait, please tell me. Innocence, innocence. Obnoxious fairies! Lily. Your Highness. I am so glad for your royal visit. Have some more pie. Nel, I don't have time to sit down today. Oh, are you waiting for someone? No, I'm not waiting. Look, your father does not allow these pranks. Since dad doesn’t know, there’s no need to bother him with this. Oh, the thirsty heart is drawn into despair, like a blind man caught in a dragon's snare. Neither folk sayings nor the king's orders will keep me from the forest today. Well then, maybe common sense? Lily. Princess Lily. You are like a daughter to me. Forgive me, but it's time for you to start acting like a princess. You should go out and look for a handsome prince on a white horse, and not visit poor people like us. No. Don't you know I love coming here. This place is hundreds of times more attractive to me than all the palaces in the world. You live a very rich life, Nel. I don’t know what prince could understand the forest as you do. You're such a sweetheart, Lily. Magic is wonderful. One day you too will find your magic. I'm sure you will find it. I have no time. I ran. Beware of tree spirits and ghosts, baby. There are plenty of them in the forest. And stay away from toadstools, willow branches and old oak trees. Jack! Where are you? Jack? Jack. Jack? Jack? Jack, answer me. Jack! Jack, please. If you're here tell me
