Rhetorical question... Do I have a home? Isn’t home where your family is?

I am writing to speculate; there is unlikely to be a definite answer. What we have: we’ve been living with my husband and our son for 5 years, my mother-in-law in the mother-in-law’s living space. The living space allows it. My husband is the youngest son - she gave birth to him at 40. There is also an older one - he lives separately with his family.

She is 70 years old. Her mother-in-law does not interfere in the relationship, she helps with her grandson (everyone has their own cockroaches). She cannot let go of the past - and I sincerely feel sorry for her in this regard (her husband, his and her parents helped buy this apartment). How we came to this: having agreed to live at the beginning of the relationship with my husband in my mother’s apartment, he gave me the argument that my mother was old and needed help. My mother-in-law didn’t really know, and she understood her husband’s desire to be close to his mother. My experience is that my grandmothers and Grandfathers passed away before the age of 70; they all had health problems. For me, these are really elderly people, and that’s what I based myself on. Now I see that my mother-in-law is still of a clear mind and good memory, capable of living completely normally and alone. I really wanted to have a close relationship with her, based on respect. Otherwise, I can’t imagine how to live together - you need to love each other. Otherwise, it’s a communal apartment. Both before marriage and during marriage, the option of living separately was considered. The husband asked his mother-in-law - she really wants to live together - like, at least I will need - your help. He told me that he wants to live together with a large family. The older brother refused the share - we they were going to pay half the amount for housing. My husband and I used our joint money to make renovations with joint efforts; everyone tried to negotiate and find a compromise. It was generally not bad. I didn’t like some things and I tried to accept them - “that’s how they live in this house, ok.” During our marriage, we bought an apartment to my parents - they live in another country, we want them to move in their old age. That is, we had money for an apartment - we just didn’t consider the option of an apartment for us then. And lately, something has started to strain everything. No, there were no quarrels. I just started to feel energetically that something was wrong, I couldn’t relax and the feeling didn’t go away. I told my husband that I can’t live here - it’s not my thing “Hey, what are you talking about, this house is just as mine as yours. And so it was for a couple of years in a row. Everything was like this until we found out with my mother-in-law. She’s the owner - I don’t pretend to be, but she just can’t get used to me,” he says. , her character is like that. At the same time, she is happy with everything and she sincerely wants us to live together. Again, she wants to be needed. And I needed her... But now I don’t know. The conversation started with her after they said that we would move to our own home, she tried to dissuade me - I said, I don’t know if this house will ever be mine. Do you know what she answered???? IT WILL BE... WHEN I DIE!!!

What?! Everything inside me sank... This is terrible!!!! What kind of thoughts!!!! How did she alienate me from herself at that moment. Yes, she is the mistress - BUT! Here’s a rhetorical question: Can’t a house be common to the whole family emotionally? Isn’t my home where my husband is? If not with him, then where? It’s as if I was thrown overboard. This house is for my mother-in-law, son and grandson. If it’s a family, then it’s a family. A family should have one house. And why then try to dissuade us from moving???? Living in your own apartment is good, that means there there will be a home for MY FAMILY. I have one thing - either I have “love” or I don’t. And everything else is torment. I think you can’t live with thoughts like hers. Happiness is not in square meters.
