Time: why it is a valuable resource and why manage it

People can live and not remember time. But on a birthday there is usually a little tension - another year of life has passed. And what was its result? And at this moment you want to change something and achieve more. Then time passes again and everything returns to normal. The next moment of awareness of the passage of time is the New Year (this could be a new school or calendar year). At this moment, we also want renewal, people set new goals and new deadlines. The saddest period when absolutely everyone remembers the passage of time is old age. The realization that you want to leave your mark and take stock of your life comes to everyone. Let's set a new benchmark for change, and let it be today.

The value of time

Why is time so important? Time is an irreplaceable resource, it is becoming less and less every day. Therefore, there is an idea: in order to get more done in 24 hours, you need to hurry. Rush. Does it add time to us or take it away? It seems like a lot of things have been done, but how are they done? We quickly bought a dress and realize that there is nowhere to wear it and we need to spend time returning it to the store. We didn't have time to look at the map, and so we go to the same place twice instead of doing everything in one go. We were in a hurry and forgot our phone at home, and now, at the speed of James Bond, we turn around and go home. In such a life scenario, time slips away like sand through your fingers.

Sometimes we adjust the time ourselves. When you arrive early for a meeting, you really want the waiting time to end. I wish I could go on vacation soon. The working day would soon end. We regularly repeat these phrases in our heads. And thus we program the rapid passage of time. How about changing your thinking style? "Hooray! I have a few minutes before the meeting to make a few calls” instead of “I wish he would come soon,” or “I have a few more days to think about visiting the sights” instead of “I wish I could go on vacation soon.”

Time is an opportunity! Some people use their opportunities to whine, complain, and be offended, while others, realizing their feelings, begin to look for ways of self-development. The ancient Greeks distinguished two types of time: Chronos - time flowing endlessly, and Kairos - an elusive moment of luck that comes unexpectedly, which must be seized in time.

Kairos comes suddenly - now here, now there, but he is always somewhere nearby. And he runs so fast that not everyone can not only catch him, but even notice him. And the Greeks believed that you can take advantage of this elusive moment of luck only by awakening your mind and intuition. And we want to add that these elusive possibilities can be seen only by setting up a special filter for the perception of reality. The perception filter is adjusted when a person has set a specific goal and outlined specific steps to achieve it.

There are many quotes about time:

  • "Time is money" by Benjamin Franklin.
  • “Time is the best teacher”, Mark Twain.
  • “Time is the most precious of all treasures,” Theophrastus.
  • “Time is a precious gift”, Thomas Mann.
  • “Time is space for the development of abilities,” Karl Marx.
  • “Time is the wisest adviser”, Pericles.

Time spent with loved ones can make a person happy. Time devoted to knowledge can be spiritually enriching. The time spent doing what you love will always remain in the form of creative results. Time can give a lot, but it can also take away. Here are other quotes, also about time:

  • “Time is the fire in which we burn,” Delmore Schwartz.
  • “Age is the tyrant that commands”, Eugene Delacroix.
  • “Time carries away everything”, Virgil Maro Publius.
  • "All-Consuming Time", Ovid.
  • “Time is a bad ally”, Winston Churchill.

That’s why it’s so important to manage time so that it becomes a friend and not an enemy. What is time management? To manage is to plan, organize, coordinate, motivate and control.

Time management

Planning time means determining the mission of your life, determining external factors, internal factors and a way to achieve a global goal. This is the first important stage. If you don't work through it enough, you can plan for failure.

Organizing time means structuring and distributing time depending on functions. To organize time, the famous coach Stephen Covey suggests using a table that lists all the roles performed by a person. For example, this could be the role of a wife, the role of a mother, the role of a systems analyst, the role of a parent committee member, etc. The following table outlines the purpose and specific plans for each role. The next step is to develop a calendar-based schedule for each role with delegation notes.

Coordinating time means updating the mission, roles, goals and objectives. The situation changes depending on both the external environment and internal needs and opportunities, so it is important to respond to changes in a timely manner.

Motivating yourself to use your time effectively means determining what rewards you need to actively pursue your mission. In the time of Adam Smith, the main motivation was monetary, but nowadays non-material incentives are becoming increasingly important: a free schedule, a good team, the prospect of professional growth.

There are also internal and external motivation. If a person has formulated his mission in accordance with his values, internal motivation works. If the mission is aimed at obtaining external values (money, social package, other privileges), external motivation works. Motivation can be positive (the so-called “K motivation”) and negative (“OT motivation”). Focus on internal positive motivation - it is usually more effective.

Controlling time means setting time boundaries, measuring the time used, and looking for options for optimizing time. It is very important to periodically see the results of your work - it is also very energizing and stimulating.

Thus, time management is necessary to find time for both work and leisure; be confident and motivated by your results; be satisfied with the fruits of your life. Time management involves planning, organization, coordination, self-motivation and control, as well as knowledge of the basic principles and techniques of time management.

We would like to end our article with a quote from the French writer Edouard Laboulaye:

“Tomorrow” is the great enemy of “today”; “Tomorrow” paralyzes our strength, reduces us to powerlessness, keeping us inactive.”

The price of one moment

What is the value of time? We can't measure its potential because sometimes just one moment is enough to win, while sometimes it can take a lifetime. In a minute you can become richer, and in another moment you can lose everything. It only takes one moment to make the difference between life and death. Every moment brings us many unique opportunities, we just need to understand the indication of time and use it.

Every moment is a great store of new chances in life. If we realize the value of time late, we may lose both opportunities and the most precious time of our lives. This is a basic truth in life that we must never forget. We must use this value positively and fruitfully. This is a wonderful thing that has no beginning and no end. In it things are born, grow, decay or die. Time has no restrictions, so it constantly moves at its own pace.
