Description of the story

The plot of the film "Mud" revolves around Christmas. Do you think it will be filled with good Christmas spirit? You are wrong. The main character of the film is police sergeant Bruce Robertson (James McAvoy), an ambitious fellow, without excessive virtuous qualities and, what’s more, without a conscience, dreaming of career growth.

Interesting! Irvine Welsh, who was heavily involved in the film's production, initially disapproved of McAvoy for the role of Robertson. “Too young, too handsome...” But James simply captivated him with his transformation into Bruce. “It seemed like he even grew stubble in five minutes!” - Welsh recalled.

In the beginning there was a position

The beginning of the story can be considered the moment when his boss Bob Toal announces the vacant position of inspector. But Bruce is not the only contender for promotion.

Among its competitors:

  • Peter Inglis, an experienced detective whom Bruce suspects of homosexuality;
  • Dougie Gillman, a Scottish policeman who is also a racist;
  • Gus Bane, with retirement just around the corner;
  • Ray Lennox, a cocaine addict;
  • Amanda Drummond is the only woman on the list who doesn't have much to say about her.

With such a large number of rivals, it is impossible to win in a decent way, just by solving the murder of a Japanese student. But the hero’s wife, Carol, is waiting for confirmation of his love in the form of a promotion. And Bruce, initially not burdened by the concepts of honor and conscience, begins to act:

  • spreads rumors about Peter's sexuality,
  • turns the team against young Lennox,
  • sleeps with Gillman's wife.

And you will be cured

Bruce's life in general is already full of events. He dabbled in drugs, did not disdain casual relationships, and was not loyal enough to suspects. In addition, he amused himself by calling the wife of his friend Bladesy under the false name of Frank Sidebottom and embarrassing her with dirty talk. And then, on his own behalf as a police sergeant, he frantically “searched” for the telephone hooligan.

Not surprisingly, this series of events affected Bruce's mental state. He begins to have hallucinations and nightmares. Naturally, all this does not help him in solving the murder of a Japanese student. He decides to at least “solve” the case of the “telephone hooligan” and blames it on... Bladsey. He is sent to prison, and Bruce immediately rushes to console his friend’s wife.

On a note! Doctor Rossi, whom the hero turns to with complaints of mental illness, does not help him. On the contrary, he makes the situation worse by appearing to him in nightmares with reminders of his most disgusting actions. Is it possible that the doctor in this film personifies conscience?

The meaning of the ending of the film "Dirt"

The main character never received the coveted promotion. Why? You cannot achieve respect or promotion by setting up your colleagues, while at the same time attributing your weaknesses to them. What opinion do you have about him as an employee? With his actions and actions, he finally lost respect in the team.

Bruce Robertson led the wrong lifestyle. The end of his existence was bleak. Hallucinations from drug abuse and a huge amount of alcohol led to the hero committing suicide. Bruce Robertson saved her child. The hero abruptly changed his mind about committing suicide, however, it was already too late.

What did the director want to say with this ending of the film “Mud”? You cannot live your days aimlessly, you cannot lead a riotous lifestyle, you cannot pursue mercantile interests. You need to live with meaning. Every person who watches this film will definitely think about their plans, goals, priorities. Shouldn't you reconsider your values before it's too late? There is no need to waste your life in bars, using drugs and alcohol. The main character initially had everything to become happy. However, he chose a different path and lost.

Types of therapeutic mud

All therapeutic muds are classified into four types, depending on their place of origin:

  • Sulfide
  • Sapropelic
  • Peat
  • Sopochny

The silts formed at the bottom of predominantly salty reservoirs are called sulfide, and at the bottom of predominantly fresh reservoirs - sapropelic. Sulfide-silt muds are sometimes called “basic” muds; they are formed from the bottom sediments of mineral lakes. They contain few organic substances, the composition is rich in salts and a large amount of iron sulfide. Due to their high mineralization, sulfide-silt muds have high bactericidal and significant adsorption properties and help suppress the growth of bacteria.

The silt deposits of fresh water bodies, sapropel mud, have a complex chemical composition, low mineralization, slightly alkaline reaction and a high content of biologically active substances, because such mud is formed as a result of the decomposition of organic matter from algae. These muds are considered “soft” compared to the more active sulfide-silt muds. They have a delicate effect on the body and are classified as biologically active muds.

Peat muds are bog peat deposits. The composition of peat mud includes humic substances, so such muds have high biological activity; they also contain useful substances such as chlorine anions, ammonium cations, and various microelements.

Sopochnye mud is the rarest type of therapeutic mud. These are clayey secretions of mud volcanoes with a mineral composition, which come to the surface of the earth due to high hydrostatic pressure in aquifers and are considered pseudo-volcanic in origin. Hill mud differs from others in its high content of iodine, boron and bromine, as well as specific organic matter. Such muds are formed during the destruction of rocks.

The existing four types of medicinal mud are also divided according to the place of their genetic formation:

  • Mainland
  • Primorskie
  • Marine
  • Lake-spring

In addition, all four types of medicinal mud are divided into their own subspecies. For example, the main sulfide-silt muds can be sulfate-chloride or sodium-calcium in composition.

Indications for mud therapy

Mud therapy is not only one of the most ancient methods of treatment, but also one of the most universal, therefore therapy with healing mud has a wide range of applications. Mud therapy procedures are prescribed for diseases:

  • Nervous system (peat, sapropel)
  • Musculoskeletal system (sulfide and sapropel mud are most often used, but peat and hill mud can also be effective)
  • Genitourinary system (peat, sulfide and sapropelic)
  • Respiratory organs (sulfide and sapropel)
  • ENT organs (peat, sulfide and sapropel)
  • Digestive tract (sulfide and sapropelic)
  • Peripheral arteries and veins (sulfide and sapropelic)
  • Leathers (peat, sulfide, hill)

During procedures, therapeutic mud has three influence factors: temperature, chemical and mechanical. Such a massive “attack” on the disease is due to the fact that mud retains heat well, contains a lot of useful microelements and irritates the nerve receptors of the skin, stimulating blood circulation and saturating the body’s cells with oxygen, which in turn has a beneficial effect on the whole body. The skin is the largest organ of the human body, which is why procedures with various peloids saturate the human body with biologically active substances from medicinal mud, penetrating into the blood through the skin, the healing components of the mud affect the functions of almost all internal organs and systems.

Therapeutic mud improves blood and lymph flow, has a beneficial effect on metabolism, promotes healing and relieves inflammation, both on the skin and internal organs. Peloid therapy stimulates cell regeneration and has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects.

Mud therapy is allowed for both adults and children, but there are some restrictions on specific procedures determined by the doctor, but in general, contraindications to mud therapy are more general. For example, procedures with mud are contraindicated for epilepsy, the presence of a malignant neoplasm, cirrhosis of the liver, blood diseases in the acute stage, extreme exhaustion of the body, and frequently recurring bleeding. Particular caution should be exercised when prescribing mud therapy procedures to patients with diseases of the cardiovascular system. In addition, you can undergo a course of mud therapy only outside the acute stages of any disease, during the period when the disease subsides.
