Now it’s the turn to sum up the year in Russian rap – especially since for domestic hip-hop, 2017 turned out to be more than full of high-profile events and successful releases. Rap has become the number one genre in the country, songs and albums of Russian rappers take the first lines of the charts, while the performers themselves collect soldouts at the Olympic, Stadium and Glavklub.
An important note: the rating is compiled from releases released by artists in our rotation: it also includes rock and R&B albums from artists closely associated with rap culture - for example, 25/17 and Noa. For other albums published under the #NotFormat tag, we have prepared a separate list.

The heroes of Belarusian rap have always been famous for their originality and originality. Murovei, LSP, Max Korzh. Soon (we are sure) this row will be joined by another, extremely extraordinary, but incredibly charismatic and versatile guy Buckeye, who released his third album in April. “Nanothread” is a bold step forward in the rapper’s discography, replacing the gloomy underground sound with mischievous electronics with dialecticisms and folk melodies. These are dance motifs and abstract lyrics, either skillfully plunging into darkness, or illuminating with positivity.

Both project covers literally symbolize the transformation from “Adikah” to “Skripi”; from rapper to musician; from a “patsik” (if “Holiday” was about “bitches”, then “Street 36” is about “patsiks”) into a star. And the self-devouring ouroboros is the apogee of the rapper’s ending journey, because despite all the successful indicators, such as special status and increased popularity, he will still be drawn home, into the dirt, into memories.
This is the path of Scryptonite from the last link of the food chain to the status of apex predator. In fact, the performer did everything to ensure that there was no replacement for him on the local stage, exterminating the local fauna without a fight, and as a trusted source says: the apex predator can provide food for symbiotic species - here we draw a parallel with Jillzay (Zorski Bros.). Adil’s only and most important opponent was himself, to which the name “Mirrors” refers.
